A newborn allegedly went missing from Quetta Civil Hospital after a woman gave birth to twins. The family has accused hospital staff of failing to provide information about the second baby.
Nageena Begum was admitted to the hospital’s gynaecology ward around 11pm Sunday, according to her family. She later underwent a C-section at the hospital.
The family said Nageena was carrying twins before the operation. However, they claimed staff handed over only one newborn after the procedure.
The family also said hospital records showed a twin pregnancy. However, they were allegedly told that only one baby had been born.
Family Questions Whereabouts of Second Newborn
Shehzad Ali, Nageena’s brother-in-law, raised concerns about the missing newborn.
He said ultrasound reports had confirmed the presence of two babies. He also said a private hospital had independently confirmed the twin pregnancy.
“We were informed through ultrasound reports that there were two babies. The hospital report also mentioned twins, and a private hospital had independently confirmed the presence of two babies,” said Shehzad Ali, the woman’s brother-in-law and a resident of Arbab Town on Sariab Road.
Shehzad alleged that the family received only one baby after the operation.
He said hospital staff told the family that only one newborn had been delivered.
According to Shehzad, doctors at Civil Hospital have not provided information about the whereabouts of the second baby. The family has therefore called for an investigation into the matter.
Ultrasound Report Shows Twin Pregnancy
The family also presented an obstetrical ultrasound report. The report showed a twin pregnancy at approximately 34 weeks and six days of gestation.
It also recorded positive fetal heartbeats for both fetuses. Furthermore, the report mentioned an anterior placenta and adequate liquor.
The family says these findings support their claim that Nageena was carrying twins before delivery. However, the circumstances surrounding the second newborn remain unclear.
Inquiry Committee Formed at Civil Hospital
Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Hadi Kakar said an inquiry committee had been formed. The committee will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Dr Abdul Hadi said the family would receive information about the findings soon. The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the delivery and the whereabouts of the second newborn.
Meanwhile, the family has appealed to authorities for action against anyone found responsible.
Family Seeks Investigation Into Alleged Disappearance
The family wants authorities to establish what happened after the C-section. They have questioned why only one newborn was handed over after the operation.

The Quetta incident comes days after a separate case in Karachi.
A family there alleged that their newborn had gone missing from a private hospital in Nazimabad. The allegation followed an operation performed for delivery.
However, an investigation later reached a different conclusion in that case. Authorities found that the woman had falsely claimed to be pregnant.
The Karachi case has emerged alongside the latest allegations in Quetta. However, the two cases remain separate incidents.
Investigation Expected to Clarify Quetta Case
The alleged disappearance of the newborn has raised serious questions for the family. They say medical records and ultrasound findings indicated a twin pregnancy.
Yet, they received only one newborn after the C-section. The family has consequently sought an immediate investigation.
Meanwhile, the Civil Hospital administration has formed an inquiry committee. The committee’s findings are expected to clarify what happened to the second newborn.
Until the investigation concludes, the circumstances surrounding the alleged disappearance remain unresolved.
