The annual Tableeghi Ijtema in Islamabad has been postponed by a week amid uncertainty in the capital, which is expected to host a second round of peace talks between Iran and the United States.
Organizers announced that the gathering, initially scheduled from April 24 to April 26, has been rescheduled following consultations with the Raiwind leadership. The new dates now extend from April 24 to May 1. Mufti Mohammad Waqas Rafi, the eventโs organizer, stated that authorities decided to review the prevailing situation and to facilitate the governmentโs arrangements.
He further noted that the event could face additional delays or even cancellation if uncertainty persists. Meanwhile, organizers remain in close coordination with the district administration to ensure appropriate security measures for participants.
Officials from the capitalโs police and administrative departments indicated that the uncertain environment in Islamabad may continue until clarity emerges regarding the planned diplomatic talks. The possible visit of delegations and related security concerns have contributed to the cautious approach.
The Tableeghi Ijtema, a major annual religious congregation, typically draws between 250,000 and 300,000 attendees from across Pakistan. According to organizers, the event has been held regularly in the federal capital for more than two decades, making it one of the largest gatherings of its kind in the country.
Authorities and organizers continue to monitor developments closely as they prepare for any further changes depending on the evolving situation.
