Foreign tourists belonging to China, United States, India and other countries have gone missing in the deadly flash floods in Nepal-Tibet region. So far, 165 bodies of the tourists have been recovered.
Different search teams are making hectic efforts to rescue the stranded tourists.
Tourists among those missing
Nepal reported that 468 tourists and travellers remained out of contact, including 393 foreigners, 24 hours after the disaster.
Department of Tourism spokesman Suraj Ghimire said 75 Nepalis were also among those missing. Meanwhile, authorities continued searching remote areas devastated by the floods.
Nepali police said they had recovered 162 bodies. The disaster swept away villages, vehicles and buildings along rivers in several affected areas.
China reports hundreds missing
Across the border, Chinese authorities reported three deaths and 558 people missing after a mudslide struck Gyirong in Tibet.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that 260 of the missing people were foreign nationals. Officials said two people were successfully rescued from the landslide-hit area.
The disaster caused widespread destruction after torrents of mud and water surged through the region. Surveillance footage showed debris crashing into buildings and sweeping away vehicles.
The United States Geological Survey said a glacial collapse caused the destructive debris flow. The surge then moved through areas along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers.
Rescue workers continued operations despite difficult conditions. Authorities were searching for survivors while assessing the extensive damage caused by the floods and landslides.
