ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a stern warning against creating fake social media profiles of women, sharing private images and engaging in online blackmail.
In a statement issued on Monday, the agency declared that online harassment, misuse of personal information and circulation of private photographs constitute punishable cybercrimes under Pakistani law.
The NCCIA urged citizens to report such activities immediately and provide relevant evidence to help authorities identify offenders and initiate legal proceedings.
Furthermore, the agency encouraged victims to break their silence and approach law enforcement agencies without hesitation.
Officials emphasised that protecting women’s privacy and dignity in digital spaces remains essential for creating a secure online environment.
The NCCIA also advised citizens to contact its dedicated helpline, 1799, to register complaints involving fake accounts, blackmail and unauthorised sharing of personal content.
Meanwhile, authorities recently arrested a suspect in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, for allegedly recording a girl’s video and uploading it to TikTok without her consent.
Police identified the suspect through technical investigations after receiving a complaint from the victim’s family.
The NCCIA reiterated that public cooperation and timely reporting are crucial to combating cybercrime and ensuring a safer digital Pakistan for everyone.
