LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) today issued fresh notices to MPA Saqib Chadhar and actress Momina Iqbal after new evidence surfaced in the online harassment case.
The agency summoned both individuals for Friday, September 4, at its Lahore office for further questioning. NCCIA officials have also formed a special investigation team to conduct a fresh inquiry into Iqbal’s harassment allegations.
Iqbal previously accused Chadhar of online harassment, cyberbullying and threats through social media earlier this year.
Following her allegations, the NCCIA registered a case against Chadhar under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Pakistan Penal Code.
Special Team to Examine Digital Evidence
NCCIA Punjab Deputy Director Waqas Saeed said a deputy director would lead the special investigation team.
The team will examine newly obtained digital evidence alongside records already available in the case.
According to Saeed, investigators have one month to complete the inquiry and submit their report to the NCCIA director general.
He said authorities would determine further legal action after reviewing the investigation’s findings.
Furthermore, the spokesperson cautioned against declaring either individual guilty or innocent before investigators complete the inquiry.
Court Withdraws Chadhar’s Bail Pleas
Meanwhile, a Lahore court disposed of Chadhar and his wife’s pre-arrest bail petitions after they withdrew their pleas.
The development came after the new investigating officer said authorities did not require the suspects’ arrest at the current stage.
Previously, former IO Najam Bajwa had told the court that Chadhar was found guilty during the investigation.
However, new IO Hassan Sajjad Naqvi said the investigation had changed following new defence evidence.
The suspects had requested a fresh investigation, according to a summons order.
Iqbal attended the hearing when the investigating officer informed the court about the latest development.
Following the statement, Chadhar and his wife withdrew their bail petitions, and the court disposed of the pleas.
