A new development has emerged in the ongoing legal dispute between actress Momina Iqbal and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Saqib Chadhar. The actress’s lawyer, Adnan Ehsan, said that Momina’s sister Rimsha Iqbal has travelled to Australia to respond to legal proceedings allegedly initiated by the MPA.
According to Advocate Adnan Ehsan, Rimsha Iqbal recently left for Australia to defend herself in a separate complaint filed against her there. He said Rimsha, who is also a lawyer, had previously represented her sister before the Punjab Bar Council and during related legal matters.
The lawyer added that Rimsha travelled to Australia to appear in the proceedings and present her defence. The development follows several allegations and counter-allegations between both sides in Pakistan.
Saqib Chadhar Accuses Rimsha Iqbal of Financial Misconduct
Earlier, MPA Saqib Chadhar submitted an application at Bhowana Police Station in Chiniot, accusing Rimsha Iqbal of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Rs 8 million.
In his complaint, Chadhar claimed he had long-standing family relations with the Iqbal family. He alleged that Rimsha requested Rs 8 million as a “trust amount” for processing her Australian visa. He further claimed she promised to return the money after completing the process.
Chadhar stated that he transferred Rs 3.9 million through cheque and provided Rs 4.1 million in cash in front of witnesses. However, he alleged that Rimsha later refused to return the amount and threatened him.
Additionally, he submitted a complaint to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). He claimed he paid AUD 13,000 for Rimsha’s university fees at Momina Iqbal’s request. He further alleged that another AUD 10,000 was paid after blackmail attempts.
Rimsha Iqbal Rejects Allegations
Rimsha Iqbal has denied all accusations and described them as baseless. During a Punjab Bar Council disciplinary committee hearing, she said she continued to support her sister and rejected the claims made against her.
The committee had directed both sides’ lawyers, including Advocate Rimsha Iqbal and MPA Saqib Chadhar’s counsel Mian Ali Ashfaq, not to discuss the case publicly through media platforms.
Meanwhile, the main harassment case remains pending before the Sessions Court Lahore. The court recently extended interim pre-arrest bail for Saqib Chadhar and his wife Samira Chadhar until September 3.
The extension came after the NCCIA submitted a report that reportedly found Saqib Chadhar involved in allegations related to cyber harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
