USAID and Partners Celebrate Transformative Achievements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Collaborating with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and international donors, the United States, represented by Consul General Moore and USAID Mission Director Somvongsiri, recently celebrated a series of significant achievements in the region. USAID reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing lives and fostering sustainable development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mission Director Somvongsiri expressed appreciation for the fruitful partnership, stating, “USAID remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Together with our local and international collaborators, we have laid a strong foundation for a promising future. Our resolve to work together towards shared objectives and lasting impact is unwavering.”

Through USAID, the United States has led transformative infrastructure initiatives, notably enhancing the province’s energy capacity and connectivity. Projects like the Gomal Zam Dam and Golen Gol Hydropower project, in conjunction with upgrades to the Tarbela dam, have added 253 megawatts to the national grid, advancing energy self-reliance significantly.

Beyond infrastructure, USAID’s impact extends to over 18,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), fostering economic stability and prosperity. Improved irrigation methods and agricultural practices supported by USAID initiatives have doubled farm incomes for over 30,000 households.

In the realms of health and education, USAID has rehabilitated over 200 facilities, providing essential services to more than two million individuals and saving lives across the province. Notably, USAID has enhanced reading instruction for over 600,000 children, distributed three million books, and granted over 8,500 university scholarships. The construction and rehabilitation of numerous schools have expanded educational opportunities for over one million students, laying the groundwork for a brighter future.

Moreover, USAID has facilitated the issuance of national identity cards to over 130,000 women, enabling their inclusion in voter lists and government support programs. The introduction of the province’s inaugural disaster preparedness strategy underscores a proactive approach to resilience and sustainability.

These endeavors have not only positively impacted lives but also established a robust framework for ongoing progress and prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
