The United Arab Emirates has recently lauded a Pakistani man for his swift action in repairing a broken traffic signal in Dubai.
Zeeshan Ahmed, a delivery rider who migrated from Pakistan to the UAE over a decade ago, was commuting along Al Wasl Street when he noticed a precarious situation: the lower part of a traffic signal was hanging precariously.
Despite not having an active delivery order at the moment, Ahmed promptly stopped his motorcycle and took it upon himself to fix the dangling signal before continuing on his way.
Reflecting on the incident, Ahmed expressed concern that the loose panel could pose a danger to pedestrians or drivers, particularly on a windy day.
Unbeknownst to him, a bystander recorded the entire act of goodwill, which later gained traction on social media, catching the attention of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The RTA reached out to Ahmed’s employer to obtain his contact details, eventually leading to a call from the authority expressing their desire to honor him for his actions.
Ahmed emphasized that his motivation was purely humanitarian, stating, “We delivery riders are always on the road and see many things. We reach places a lot of people don’t reach. So, I think it is our duty to help as much as possible,” underscoring the sense of responsibility he feels toward ensuring public safety.
