ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced on Friday the discovery of gas condensate reserves at the Baloch-2 well, located in Sindh’s Sanghar district.
According to the notice, the Sinjhoro block joint venture, which includes OGDCL as the operator with a 76% working interest, along with Orient Petroleum (19%) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) (5%), successfully discovered gas condensate in the Sembar Formation within the Baloch Development and Production Lease (D&PL) under the Sinjhoro Exploration Licence.
The Baloch-2 well was spudded-in on February 24, 2024, and drilled to a true vertical depth (TVD) of 3,920 meters as part of an exploratory effort led by OGDCL with technical support from its joint venture partners.
Based on wireline log interpretations, the drill stem test-3 in the Sembar Formation yielded 6.8 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 388 barrels of condensate per day (bcpd) through a choke size of 32/64″ at a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 2,180 pounds per square inch (Psi).
The Sembar Formation, known for its significant source potential, is widely distributed across the Middle and Lower Indus basin of Pakistan. This discovery not only confirms the untapped potential of the Sembar Formation but also opens a new avenue for exploration and development of hydrocarbon reserves in the block.
OGDCL also mentioned its plans to appraise and develop the Baloch-2 well further, including re-entering existing shut-in wells to fully exploit the Sembar Formation’s potential.
