The IT Ministry orders PTA to block access to 19 websites that are disseminating ‘propaganda’ against institutions

ISLAMABAD: Over the last few months, the trend of negative propaganda and forgery on social media has accelerated. The targets have been varying ranging from government officials to military personnel. The Ministry of Information Technology is now determined to counter the growing propaganda.

The Ministry of Information Technology has discovered an additional 19 websites that are spreading false rumors about institutions and individuals. As a result, they have instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take appropriate measures against these websites.


The Ministry, recognizing the gravity of the situation, has urgently appealed to the PTA to implement measures to block the websites actively involved in disseminating detrimental propaganda targeting state institutions and prominent personalities. This call to action comes in response to the alarming increase in the spread of false narratives and malicious content that aim to tarnish the reputation and credibility of these vital entities.

The Ministry emphasizes the necessity of swift intervention to safeguard the integrity and public perception of these esteemed institutions and individuals, ensuring a fair and accurate representation of their roles and contributions.

In a communication addressed to the PTA, it has been disclosed that the count of websites involved in spreading negative propaganda has escalated to a total of 97. The Ministry emphasizes the need for swift action to address this concerning situation and curtail the dissemination of such misleading content across digital platforms.


Previously, the ministry had dispatched a letter advising the closure of 80 websites. Most of these websites were involved in the dissemination of deceptive news and misleading facts that threaten national security.

Although the IT Ministry identified the websites, they have not been blocked yet. The IT Ministry has now ordered the PTA to block these websites to tackle the growing wave of propaganda.

The ministry has now urged to take quick action against the sites disseminating negative propaganda. These websites have been linked with proliferating false news and distorted facts against state institutions and personalities.
