In a historic move, the Sindh government has sanctioned a secret fund of Rs100 million for the Department of Excise and Narcotics Control, marking a significant development in the department’s efforts to combat drug-related issues. This decision comes on the heels of a formal request from the excise department.
On June 20, the excise department submitted a summary to the Sindh Chief Minister, seeking approval for the fund. After reviewing the proposal, the Chief Minister granted approval and instructed that the summary be presented to the Cabinet. The Cabinet subsequently endorsed the allocation of Rs100 million for the current financial year, earmarked specifically as a secret fund for the department.
During the Cabinet meeting, the excise department provided a briefing on its ongoing initiatives aimed at eradicating the drug menace in the region. The allocation of the secret fund is intended to enhance the department’s ability to gather confidential information and conduct undercover operations against the drug mafia.
In addition to the excise department, both the police and anti-corruption agencies have also been allocated secret funds to support their efforts. These funds are expected to facilitate the collection of crucial intelligence, leading to arrests and more effective action against drug-related criminal activities.
The Narcotics Control Wing, led by Director General Usman Ghani, will oversee the implementation of the new fund. The aim is to use the resources to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks, thereby significantly contributing to the fight against narcotics in the region. This strategic funding is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the state’s response to the drug crisis and improving overall public safety.
