Sherry Rehman Rejects Reports of Consensus on Caretaker PM as “fake news.”

ISLAMABAD: PPP leader Sherry Rehman rejected the reports claiming that a name of the caretaker prime minister had been finalized, labeling them as “fake news.”

 She emphasizes that no name had been shared with the party, and they had not made any decision regarding the caretaker PM. The PPP’s position remains unchanged, advocating for a non-partisan caretaker government, as per the democratic principles entrenched in the Constitution.

While media reports suggest that the PML-N leadership favored Ishaq Dar as the interim prime minister. The PPP had not made any such decisions and stressed the importance of a consultative process involving multiple parties and the opposition leader. Rehman highlighted that unbiasedness was crucial for a fair election, and the party was inclined toward it.

The PPP formed a three-member committee for consultation on the caretaker setup. But no final decision had been made regarding the candidate. Rehman clarified that her party had not been consulted about appointing the caretaker PM from the federal cabinet.

The PPP leader reiterated the party’s stance on holding elections on time, within the constitutional term, to ensure stability in the country. She emphasized the importance of considering the Election Commission of Pakistan’s rules and regulations to maintain a level playing field in the elections.

While rejecting the reports, the PPP Information Secretary, Faisal Karim Kundi, confirmed that Ishaq Dar had not been proposed to the PPP.

 He says that if any names were shared with the party, There would be a debate on the matter, and various parties would propose names for discussion with the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

Despite reservations about the 2023 census, Kundi stressed that elections should not be delayed due to census issues.
