Shehroze Kashif: Youngest Pakistani to Conquer All 14 ‘8,000ers’

Shehroze Kashif

Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest climber in Pakistan to summit all 14 peaks that exceed 8,000 meters.

The 22-year-old achieved this remarkable milestone today when he successfully reached the summit of Shishapangma, which stands at a height of 8,027 meters.

Known affectionately as the “Broad Boy,” Kashif completed his ascent early this morning, solidifying his status in the annals of mountaineering.

His accomplishment makes him only the second Pakistani climber to achieve this prestigious feat, following Sarbaz Khan, who was the first to scale all 14 eight-thousanders after summiting Shishapangma earlier this year.

Kashif’s journey to conquer these formidable peaks began in 2019 when he, at just 17 years old, made his first significant mark by successfully scaling Broad Peak, which rises to 8,047 meters.

This initial success not only marked the beginning of his climbing career but also propelled him into international prominence within the mountaineering community.

In 2021, Kashif continued to build on his early achievements by summiting some of the world’s most iconic peaks, including Mount Everest, Manaslu, and K2.

The following year, he showcased his exceptional climbing skills by reaching the summits of Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II. Last year, he added Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Cho Oyu to his impressive list of conquered mountains.

Notably, Kashif had aimed to summit Shishapangma last year but faced an unfortunate accident that prevented him from doing so. Had he succeeded at that time, he would have set a world record as the youngest climber to complete the daunting challenge of summiting all 14 eight-thousanders.

Upon achieving this monumental feat, Kashif expressed his joy and reflected on the various challenges he encountered throughout his journey. “I knew it was going to be extremely difficult, and the risk of losing my life was real,” he stated.

“But I kept my focus on the goal. Now that I am standing here, I realize that this achievement is not just about climbing mountains; it’s about overcoming fears, doubts, and limitations. For me, it is nothing short of a miracle.”

Kashif’s journey was also supported by the BARD Foundation, which played a significant role in his ascent. Abdul Razak Dawood, the founder of the foundation, expressed his overwhelming happiness regarding Kashif’s accomplishment.

“I always believed in the extraordinary potential of this young man, and today, he has surpassed all expectations, making the entire nation proud. There’s no greater feeling than witnessing the name of Pakistan’s youth celebrated on a global stage,” he said.

Shehroze Kashif’s historic achievement not only highlights his individual talent and determination but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation in Pakistan.

His journey embodies the spirit of perseverance and courage, showcasing that with dedication and hard work, seemingly impossible goals can be attained.
