Punjab Records Over 10 Million Driving Licenses Issued in 2023

Driving Licenses

LAHORE: In a remarkable achievement, Punjab has set a record by issuing over 10 million driving licenses in 2023, as announced by the caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi expressed his gratitude on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, “Alhamdulillah! Punjab surpasses 1 crore driving licenses in 2023! Appreciation for Punjab Police and PITB for their efforts in achieving this significant milestone in such a short time.”

The accomplishment is seen as a result of concerted efforts by the Punjab Police and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to streamline the licensing process. The efficient handling of the procedures has enabled the issuance of a substantial number of driving licenses within a relatively short timeframe.

It’s noteworthy that on December 5, the Punjab government approved a significant increase in the driving license fee, raising it from Rs60 to Rs1,000. This decision was made during the 33rd meeting of the provincial cabinet, where caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi presided.

Despite the fee hike, the Lahore Traffic Police, in a subsequent announcement on X, informed the public that individuals can continue to apply for driving licenses at the old fee rate until December 31.

The increase in driving license issuance aligns with efforts to regulate and enhance road safety measures, ensuring that individuals on the road have undergone the necessary assessments and possess the required skills. The record-breaking number of driving license issued reflects the impact of streamlined processes and increased public awareness of the importance of adhering to licensing regulations.
