Punjab Government Announces Electric Bus Service Launch in Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab’s Transport Minister, Bilal Akbar, has unveiled plans to introduce electric buses in Lahore, according to a report.

Addressing the Punjab Assembly session, Minister Bilal Akbar disclosed that 27 electric buses are scheduled to commence operations in Lahore by December 2024. Additionally, he announced the forthcoming launch of hybrid buses across various districts in Punjab.

Highlighting the strides made in public transportation, Akbar emphasized the implementation of a modernized transport system in major cities across the province.

In another development on May 10, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Clinics on Wheels project. This initiative aims to deploy 200 mobile clinics to provide healthcare services to approximately 4 million people in the province.

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif underscored the significance of these mobile clinics in addressing healthcare challenges faced by residents in densely populated urban areas.

She reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to bringing essential health services directly to the doorsteps of the people.

Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz announced plans to establish state-of-the-art cardiology facilities in eight cities across Punjab.

These facilities, equipped with advanced cardiology equipment, will be established in Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Murree, and Layyah, aiming to enhance cardiac care accessibility for residents in these areas.

These initiatives reflect the Punjab government’s concerted efforts to enhance public services, particularly in the realms of transportation and healthcare.

The introduction of electric bus and mobile healthcare units signifies a commitment to sustainable and accessible infrastructure, ultimately aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens across the province.
