ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again called on all political parties to reach a consensus on charters of economy and democracy to address national issues and overcome crises.
Speaking at an event in Lahore, the PM emphasized that unity and resolving differences among all stakeholders are essential for the progress of the country.
He expressed concern over Pakistan’s heavy reliance on International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout packages despite possessing significant mineral resources. Comparing with India, which has not sought IMF assistance since 1991.The PM lamented the repeated need for IMF bailouts in Pakistan.
Although the country managed to avert default by securing the IMF’s stand-by agreement. The PM stressed the importance of utilizing this opportunity to put the economy on a sustainable growth trajectory.
Prime Minster Shehbaz Sharif urged for the signing of a charter of economy and working together on a charter of democracy to foster cooperation among all parties for the betterment of Pakistan.
Earlier in the day, while laying the foundation stones for various development projects. The Prime Minister urges people to consider the difference in performance between the allegedly corrupt PTI-led government and the PML-N, which he claimed had been at the forefront of major development projects.
He assures that his party, PML-N, would respect the public mandate in the upcoming general elections and, if given the opportunity to serve the country, would restore Pakistan’s true image. He questioned PTI chief Imran Khan’s claims of recovering billions of dollars of “plundered wealth” within ninety days, stating that no such recovery occurred during PTI’s four years in power.
PM Shehbaz also said that a Rs50 billion recovery scandal, where funds were returned to the government exchequer. But did not reach the State Bank of Pakistan as intended. Instead, it went to the Supreme Court, where the PTI government was involved.
The PM cited various corruption cases, including BRT Peshawar, Toshakhana, Malam Jabba, and sugar scams, as examples of major corruption issues during the PTI’s rule.
PM Shehbaz encouraged setting aside differences and uniting for the greater good. Especially in providing quality education to the young generation, particularly those from impoverished and marginalized backgrounds.
