Pre-Arrest Bail Granted to PTI Chairman Imran Khan in May 9 Events Case

ISLAMABAD: A district and session court in Islamabad cleared PTI Chairman Imran Khan of any wrongdoing in a case related to the May 9 events, which involved violent protests following his arrest.

The court approved Khan’s bail in two cases filed against him at the Shehzad Town Police Station, and a four-page written order was issued for the pre-arrest bail in both cases.

The court highlighted that the incitement clause had been misinterpreted, emphasizing the necessity of establishing a clear link between the act of incitement and the actual commission of the offense. It was crucial to prove that the offense occurred as a result of the incitement.

During the incident, Khan was already in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), dispelling claims that he orchestrated his own illegal arrest, which the court deemed absurd and indicative of malicious intentions by the police.

The court said that handing over the petitioner (Imran Khan) to the police would serve no purpose other than causing unnecessary humiliation. Therefore, the pre-arrest bail was granted against the submission of surety bonds worth Rs5,000.

According to the prosecution,PTI Chairman Khan’s video statement was the only evidence presented but it was unrelated to the incident, and there was nothing in his statement to incite the public. The prosecution also presented several tweets of the former prime minister as evidence, but they did not substantiate any incitement.

Overall, the court found no evidence linking Imran Khan to incitement or any offense related to the May 9 events and granted him pre-arrest bail in both cases.
