ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Saba Talpur has taken a commanding lead in the NA-213 by-election held in Umerkot, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results from all 479 polling stations.
Talpur reportedly secured 158,446 votes, leaving her main opponent, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Lal Malhi, far behind with 79,790 votes.
Senior PPP leader Nisar Khuhro congratulated Talpur on her likely victory, praising her strong performance in the by-poll.
The by-election follows the legacy of the late Nawab Yousaf Talpur, who won the seat in the 2018 general elections with an overwhelming 175,162 votes. At that time, his closest competitor, Mir Amanullah Talpur of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), garnered only 44,061 votes.
The strong turnout and wide margin highlight PPP’s enduring influence in the Umerkot region.
