PML-N may lead the next govt as Parliament clears way for Nawaz Sharif to lead his party in elections

PML-N may lead

ISLAMABAD: PML-N League is expected to lead the next government which will be formed after the coming elections this year.

According to sources, PML-N is most likely to form the next government in the center and Punjab with the support of other like-minded parties.

A hot debate is going on in the power circles these days that China is keen to see the PML-N in power again. It is because China believes that PML-N is capable of managing the ongoing financial and political crises in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, groundwork is also being done to ensure the return of Nawaz Sharif to power once again after the 2023 elections, sources claimed.

Parliament clears the way for Nawaz, Tareen to contest the next elections

On Sunday, the National Assembly passed the Elections (Amendment) Bill 2023. The bill curtailed the disqualification of elected representatives to five years only. Senate had already passed the bill.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif in July 2017, when he was Prime Minister. He has completed a five-year disqualification term and is in a position to lead his party in the coming elections.

It means Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Khan Tareen will be able to contest the next general elections. The government leaders have already said that elections could be held in October this year.

As the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Ali has gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has become the acting President of Pakistan.

It means that this time there is no one to create hurdles in the way of Nawaz Sharif to contest upcoming elections.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar presented the bill in the supplementary agenda for approval, wherein the NA passed the Election (Amendments) Bill 2023 unanimously.

The bill empowers the ECP to unilaterally announce a date for the general elections – a power that is currently vested in the president of Pakistan.
