PIA plans to recommence direct flights to Paris next month and to the UK in August

The European Aviation Safety Agency is scheduled to convene on May 14 to discuss lifting the ban on PIA’s European flights.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to relaunch direct flights to the United Kingdom starting August 14, a milestone achievement after four years. This announcement brings relief to Pakistanis living in the UK and Europe, providing them with seamless and direct access to their home country.

A spokesperson for PIA expressed optimism that the airline would obtain phase-wise approval from the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) this month. During a recent meeting with the Council of Economics and Energy Journalists, the spokesperson outlined the airline’s strategy for expanding its services.

Upon receiving permission, PIA will resume services to Paris next month. The airline has accelerated repair work on its 777 aircraft fleet to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness for European and UK routes.

Spokesman Abdullah Hafeez mentioned that PIA currently operates seven 777 aircraft, with two more scheduled to enter service within the next two months. Additionally, he highlighted PIA’s air service agreements with 97 countries, facilitating smooth travel and trade links worldwide.

On May 14, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s review board will convene to discuss the lifting of the ban on Pakistani airlines’ European flights, including PIA. A high-level delegation led by the aviation secretary is set to depart for Brussels on Sunday to attend the meeting.

Reports on audits of critical sectors of civil aviation and PIA will be presented during the IASA review board meeting.

Additionally, the Civil Aviation Authority has passed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Universal Aviation Security Audit, and has also achieved success in the assessment of key areas by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. Aviation sources indicate optimistic prospects for the ban on Pakistani airlines being lifted.
