Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Outlook: Neighbourly Relations and Diplomatic Engagement

Islamabad: In its recent statement, the Foreign Office of Pakistan has underscored its commitment to establishing relations with all its neighbors, including India, based on principles of equality, respect, and dignity. During a weekly media briefing, Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic means in resolving disputes, welcoming the mediation of any friendly country to address issues between India and Pakistan, including the Kashmir conflict.

Acknowledging Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to engage in dialogue and diplomacy. However, she highlighted that decisions regarding foreign policy would be determined by the newly formed federal cabinet or the foreign minister once appointed.

The spokesperson also addressed Modi’s scheduled visit to India-held Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue and the importance of Kashmiri self-determination for regional stability. Expressing concerns over the ongoing oppression of Kashmiris by Indian forces, Pakistan emphasized the need for meaningful dialogue and respect for human rights in the region.

In response to questions about the arrest of Afghan citizens allegedly planning an attack on Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Baloch stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had yet to receive detailed information about the incident. However, she assured Pakistan that she would engage with the Afghan government once details were shared to address the matter effectively and ensure regional security.

Pakistan’s foreign policy outlook emphasizes diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for international norms to foster regional peace and stability while addressing pressing issues such as Kashmir and cross-border security concerns.
