The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the election schedule for the six vacant seats in the Senate, which became vacant due to members being elected to other houses.

These vacancies encompass one seat in Islamabad, two seats in Sindh, and three seats in Balochistan.

According to the schedule, nomination papers will be available for collection on March 2 and 3. Subsequently, the elections will take place for the three vacant seats in Balochistan, two in Sindh, and one in Islamabad.

Regarding the election of new Senators in the Punjab Assembly, twelve Senate members will be elected in March. These include seven on general seats, two on women’s seats, two on technocrat seats, and one on a minority seat.

On March 8, 2024, the term of 11 Senators from Punjab will conclude.

Among the resigning Senators, four belong to the PML-N on general seats — Asif Kirmani, Mossadegh Malik, Rana Mahmoodul Hasan, and Khalid Shaheen Butt.

Two Senators from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will retire after completing their term: Dr. Shahzad Wasim and Waleed Iqbal.

Additionally, two women Senators from Punjab on reserved seats for women will retire in March: PMLN-backed Nizhat Sadiq and PTI-backed Sami Ezadi. Two Senators will also retire on special seats for technocrats and Ulama, including PML-N supported Ishaq Dar and Hafiz Abdul Akrim.
