ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is chairing a high-level National Security Committee (NSC) meeting at this time to assess the evolving situation following India’s recent steps in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Top military officials, federal ministers and other members of the National Security Council are attending the crucial meeting.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that the NSC is preparing a comprehensive response to India’s measures.
Sources indicate that the meeting, attended by top civilian and military leadership, is focused on evaluating the internal and external security environment while closely examining New Delhi’s swift and controversial decisions.
Criticizing India’s actions as “inappropriate and lacking seriousness,” Dar pointed out that New Delhi has failed to present any evidence implicating Pakistan in the Pahalgam attack. He labeled India’s reaction as an unjustified outburst, accusing the Modi-led government of deflecting attention from its domestic challenges by blaming Pakistan.
India has announced several retaliatory steps, including suspending the decades-old Indus Water Treaty and banning Pakistani nationals from entering the country. These moves, described by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as a “decisive response to cross-border terrorism,” come in the wake of the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam.
