Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi chaired a meeting at the FIA’s Zonal Office in Lahore, instructing for an intensified crackdown on individuals engaged in overbilling and power theft, as reported.
Naqvi emphasized zero tolerance towards overbilling and stated that providing relief to the public in their electricity bills is a top priority for the government.
The meeting assessed the progress in taking action against those responsible for overbilling and power theft.
Director FIA Lahore Sarfaraz Virk provided updates during the meeting, while DG FIA Ishaq Jahangir participated via video link.
Naqvi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against overbilling and reiterated that officers found guilty of burdening citizens with overbilling would face consequences.
He stressed that the negligence and failure of distribution companies (DISCOs) to serve citizens will not be tolerated.

He mentioned that no complaints of overbilling were reported in April and highlighted the arrest of the SE Sheikhupura for overcharging consumers.
It’s important to note that relevant government departments are actively conducting operations against power theft.
According to recent statistics, Rs91 billion have been collected nationwide, with over 69,000 electricity thieves apprehended.
In the past week, approximately 0.13 billion rupees were recovered from electricity thieves in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and Islamabad. Additionally, 0.272 billion rupees were recovered from Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta, and tribal districts.
