Murder plot allegations: Sheikh Rashid’s bail petition rejected
The Islamabad District and Sessions Court denied bail to Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), on Thursday.
Rashid was arrested for accusing Asif Ali Zardari, a former president, and co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), of plotting Imran Khan’s death.
In a post-arrest bail petition, the AML leader claimed that he was the victim of political vengeance before an Islamabad court.
During the hearing:
Rashid’s counsel claimed that only the government, not individuals, may propose the addition of the standards mentioned in the case.
He claimed that words denigrating a religion, language, or nation may fall under the purview of these principles, although Sheikh Rashid made no such assertion.
Rashid’s counsel asked the judge to grant his bail request.
The judge, however, refused the bail Application.
Sheikh Rashid Arrested:
Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML) and a PTI ally, was arrested by police.
Before detaining the AML commander, Islamabad police offered him one final chance to record his statement about Asif Zardari preparing a conspiracy to assassinate Imran Khan.
According to the FIR, Sheikh Rasheed was detained based on the accusation of a PPP leader who said that the AML commander raised unsubstantiated but serious charges against Asif Ali Zardari for plotting a conspiracy to murder Imran Khan using terrorists.
Raja Inayat Ur Rehman, President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Rawalpindi Division, filed an FIR with the Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad.
