Maryam Nawaz traveled to Kartarpur via helicopter, according to the Punjab government

In Narowal, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz flew to Kartarpur on Thursday by helicopter, and the provincial government clarified on Friday that she was not accompanied by a motorcade when an accident occurred, resulting in the tragic loss of a young life.

A spokesperson stated that the Chief Minister took prompt action upon learning of the youth’s death, instructing immediate measures. This included directing authorities to identify the vehicle responsible for the accident and apprehend those responsible. The spokesperson added that, following the CM’s instructions, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Initial reports and eyewitness testimonies suggest that Muhammad Abubakar, a 23-year-old filling station worker, tragically lost his life purportedly due to being struck by an Elite Force vehicle, reported to be associated with the chief minister’s convoy.

The incident occurred at the Chandowal Stop on Shakargarh Road, while en route to Kartarpur, where the Chief Minister had participated in Baisakhi celebrations earlier that day. The government, however, has denied these reports.

Meanwhile, Abubakar was laid to rest in his hometown following funeral prayers.

Narowal DSP Malik Muhammad Khalil stated that they had acquired CCTV footage of the incident, indicating that Abubakar fell to the ground after being struck by an unidentified motorcyclist before colliding with a government vehicle, resulting in his tragic death.

DPO Naveed Malik stated that efforts were underway to locate the unidentified motorcyclist, but as of now, no information had been obtained. He mentioned that a departmental inquiry had been initiated against the driver of the government vehicle involved in the accident.

DC Syed Hasan Raza mentioned that a proposal had been forwarded to the government to provide financial assistance to the deceased’s family.

However, Ali Rizwan, a cousin of the deceased, claimed that no government representative had reached out to the family.
