Liu Jianchao, a senior member of China’s Communist Party, plans to visit Pakistan

Liu Jianchao, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee and Minister of the International Department, is scheduled to visit Islamabad from 20-22 June 2024, following an invitation extended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

During his visit, Liu Jianchao will jointly chair the Third Meeting of the Pakistan-China Joint Consultative Mechanism on CPEC alongside Dar. This mechanism, established in 2019, serves as a regular platform for consultations between the Communist Party of China and political parties in Pakistan regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Previous meetings were held in Beijing on 19 March 2019 and virtually on 20 August 2020.

The agenda of the Third JCM meeting includes reviewing the progress of CPEC projects, assessing CPEC’s impact on Pakistan’s socio-economic development, and exploring opportunities for expanding and upgrading CPEC to enhance regional connectivity.

This visit underscores the ongoing high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China, emphasizing the strategic importance of deepening their “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership”.

It reaffirms mutual support on issues concerning each country’s core interests, aims to promote the high-quality development of CPEC, and seeks to enhance dialogue and communication on significant regional and global developments.

Liu Jianchao is also expected to engage with senior civil and military leadership in Pakistan, further enhancing bilateral ties and fostering cooperation between the Communist Party of China and Pakistan’s political parties. This visit reflects the commitment of both nations to strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership and advancing shared interests in regional stability and economic prosperity.
