Interior Minister Orders Major Crackdown on Encroachments in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued directives to relevant agencies to launch an extensive crackdown on encroachments in Islamabad. The minister instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) staff to collaborate closely with the Islamabad administration and the police to remove all encroachments, emphasizing that the operation must be conducted impartially and without any discrimination.

Acting on the minister’s directives, CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, swiftly initiated the operation against illegal structures and encroachments throughout the city. The operation led to the demolition of unauthorized constructions in areas such as Sangjani Sasing and the sealing of an illegally operating factory. Additionally, the authorities dismantled a farmhouse that had been illegally built on 24 kanals of land.

The comprehensive operation was a joint effort by the Islamabad administration, police, and CDA, all working under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner and CDA officials. This coordinated approach ensured the effective removal of encroachments and reinstated adherence to urban development regulations.

In a separate announcement, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed plans to upgrade the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) along modern lines to enhance their capabilities in preventing smuggling activities. During his visit to the PCG Headquarters in Karachi, the minister received a detailed briefing on the professional operations of the coast guards. The briefing highlighted the coast guards’ diligent efforts in fulfilling their duties and combating various forms of smuggling, with a particular focus on anti-narcotics activities.

This initiative to modernize the Pakistan Coast Guards underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement agencies and curbing illegal activities across the country.
