ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) released a pre-recorded statement of former prime minister Imran Khan after the police arrested him following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
The police took Khan into custody after convicting him to three years in prison for illegally selling state gifts.
In his 1:57 minutes-long video statement, the PTI chairman urged his supporters to “protest peacefully until you get your rights.”
“As you hear this statement, they will have arrested me. I appeal to you: don’t sit silently at home. I am fighting for you, for the country, and for your children’s future.”
Khan encouraged his supporters to come out and protest, advising them not to fear the oppressive actions of the rulers.
He emphasized that Pakistan was established in the name of Kalma, drawing a parallel with the establishment of the state of Madina by the Holy Prophet (PBUH), where slaves were freed, and justice was provided to the masses.
Imran Khan Committed Corrupt Practices: Judge Humayun Dilawar Says In The Written Order
Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar has issued a written judgment in the Toshakhana criminal case against PTI Chief Imran Khan. The Judge found Imran Khan guilty of corrupt practices and sentenced him to three years in jail.’
After announcing the verdict, the judge issued a four-page document that contained five court orders he passed between 8:20 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Each of the first four orders was passed when the court postponed the hearing to allow Khan’s lawyers to appear before it.
The fifth order was issued when the defense lawyers failed to show up. The following is the text of the final written order.
“Since nobody argued the application filed by accusing [Imran Khan] questioning the maintainability of complaint, hence on this score and on the basis of earlier findings in an order dated 05.05.2023 and 08.07.2023 the said application is dismissed.
“2. Vide my detailed judgment of today, this court finds it more than convincing that the complainant [the ECP] has produced confidence-inspiring, well-knitted and corroborated evidence, and so the charge against the accused [Imran Khan] has successfully been proven that accused has committed the offense of corrupt practices by making and publishing false statements/ declaration in respect of assets acquired by way of gifts from Toshakhana and disposed of during the years 2018-2019, 2019-2020 and making and publishing a false statement and submitting the false and incorrect declaration in material particular relating to Form-8 for the year 2020-2021. He has been found guilty of corrupt practices by hiding the benefits he accrued from national exchequer wilfully and intentionally. He cheated while providing information about gifts he obtained from Toshakhana which later proved to be false and inaccurate. His dishonesty has been established beyond doubt. Accordingly, the accused is convicted under section 174 of The Election Act 2017, and he is thus sentenced to three (03) years of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs.100,000/- and in case of default in its payment, he shall also suffer six (06) months simple imprisonment.
“3. The accused is not present today, therefore, a copy of this order along with a warrant of conviction be communicated to the I.G. Islamabad for the execution of the said warrant.
File be consigned to the record room after compilation 6 necessary completion whilst, requisitioned record(s) be returned forthwith.”
