KARACHI: Recent monsoon rains in Sindh and Balochistan have caused a significant rise in the water level at Hub Dam, , according to WAPDA sources.
Following the heavy rains, the water level at Hub Dam has reached over 335.5 feet, approaching the dam’s full capacity of 339 feet. This increase is due to substantial rainfall in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district and the dam’s catchment areas.
WAPDA officials have confirmed that there is still 4 feet of capacity remaining before the dam reaches its maximum. To ensure safety, excess water will be released through the spillway under the supervision of the Ministry of Water Resources, WAPDA, and the Lasbela Administration.
Last month, the Karachi Water Board reported that the water level in Hub Dam had risen to 334 feet due to ongoing rains in Sindh and parts of Balochistan. The spokesperson indicated that the spillway will be opened once an additional five feet of water inflow is recorded.
The rising water level is expected to improve the water supply to District West of Karachi, which depends on the Hub reservoir for its water needs.
