Government Unveils Significant Spike in Driving License Fees

Driving License Fees

The federal government has recently issued a notification announcing a substantial increase in driving license fees, impacting motorcycle and vehicle owners nationwide.

Under the latest directive, the license fees for both motorcycle and vehicle categories have surged by a significant 25%.

Additionally, individuals opting for expedited license issuance will now incur an extra charge of Rs 2,000. Furthermore, the notification delineates new charges for the mandatory driving test.

Applicants for small vehicle licenses are mandated to pay Rs 300, while those applying for licenses for large vehicles face a fee of Rs 500.

Moreover, individuals seeking a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for license approval will now be subject to a fixed fee of Rs 1,000.

In a bid to facilitate citizens and streamline the process of obtaining driving licenses, Punjab recently introduced a notable amendment to its motor vehicle rules.

The Punjab Traffic Police, in collaboration with the provincial government, revised its policy to allow failed driving test candidates to retake their examination after a reduced waiting period of two weeks, down from the previous six weeks.

This significant decision follows extensive deliberations within the Punjab Cabinet and the approval of amendments to the longstanding Punjab Motor Vehicle Rules of 1969.

An official spokesperson emphasized that every aspiring driver is granted a learning permit valid for six months, providing ample time for preparation ahead of the rigorous driving test.

With the recent implementation of an online license system, approximately 360,000 candidates are now eligible to undergo the driving assessment every six months, marking a substantial improvement in accessibility and efficiency.
