Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has highlighted the increasing threat of terrorism as a result of political disunity, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take a leading role in negotiations with PTI. Gilani emphasized that the Prime Minister, as the leader of the team, should spearhead discussions on national issues and also encouraged PTI to participate in these talks.
Gilani expressed that dialogue is essential and that the rising terrorism is a direct consequence of the lack of unity among political parties. He assured that the PPP would back every decision the Prime Minister makes regarding national security, stressing the importance of a united front in times of crisis.
Reflecting on historical context, Gilani noted that the PPP has always engaged in negotiations with opposition parties, referencing past dialogues with Nawaz Sharif and the signing of the Charter of Democracy. He called for all political parties to come together for the sake of the country.
Regarding Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Gilani described him as a longstanding colleague and expressed his desire to work together with Rehman for the benefit of the nation.
In contrast, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has dismissed any talks of negotiations with the National Assembly Speaker, stating there is no intention for direct negotiations with the government. He clarified that as an opposition party, PTI’s interactions with the National Assembly Speaker are limited to managing parliamentary affairs and maintaining the operations of the assembly.
