family murdered daughter over recovery ‘plea’ by Husband

A 20-year-old girl from Narowal has been killed by the family for marrying against their wishes.

The girl, Misbah Maqbool, who lived in Aino Bajwa village on the outskirts of Narowal, married a boy, Usman, from the same village in court on Nov 4, 2020. The union resulted in enraging her brothers and mother.

Misbah’s brother, on January 18, called a panchayat which reconciled both sides. As per the agreement, Misbah was supposed to return to the family and in meantime, if she committed suicide or took any drastic measure, her family would be held responsible. She was then handed over to the family.

Both Misbah and Usman were not happy with the Panchayat’s decision, therefore, Usman filed a petition in the court of the additional district for his wife’s recovery, on Wednesday. Misbah’s family got infuriated and allegedly shot her dead. They dumped her body in the local graveyard and escaped.

Locals claimed the girl was pregnant and had been killed for ‘honor’. They added that the police had the knowledge of the matter all along, panchayat was also aware of the fact that the girl would eventually be killed.

FIR of Misbah’s murder had been registered at Nadoke police station on the application of Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Akhtar. While SHO said the girl’s family had escaped the scene after the murder. After the incident, Usman and his family had also moved to an unknown location.
