The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of unstable conditions across multiple regions of Pakistan from May 1 to 7. According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), areas likely to be affected include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Upper and Central Punjab, northern Balochistan, and southern Sindh.
Forecasts indicate heavy rainfall, windstorms, thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated hailstorms during this period. The NDMA attributes the unstable weather to moisture inflows from the east and the Arabian Sea, combined with increasing temperatures and humidity.
Low-lying regions may face waterlogging, while mountainous areas are at risk of landslides. Authorities have urged local administrations and the public to stay alert and implement precautionary measures to mitigate potential risks.
The NDMA also advised citizens to monitor real-time updates via the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App, especially before traveling. The authority is actively monitoring the situation through NEOC in coordination with provincial and district-level agencies to ensure swift response and public safety.
Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for April 26–30. A high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere is expected to cause a sharp increase in daytime temperatures across the country.
Temperatures in southern Pakistan—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—are forecasted to remain 5–7°C above normal between April 26 and May 1. Meanwhile, central and upper regions—such as northern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—will likely experience temperatures 4–6°C above normal from April 27 to April 30.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and follow official guidance during the heatwave and upcoming severe weather period.
