Wang Wenbin says any attempt to sabotage CPEC won’t succeed

ISLAMABAD: Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, firmly said that any efforts to undermine its strong ties with Pakistan or disrupt the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will not achieve success.

In response to media inquiries during a routine press briefing, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, declared, “No endeavor to sabotage the friendship between China and Pakistan and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will achieve its aims.”

This statement was issued a day after terrorists targeted a military convoy safeguarding Chinese workers en route to a port project in Gwadar. While no citizens or military personnel were harmed, two terrorists were neutralized in the response.

The army’s media wing conveyed, “However, due to the swift and effective response, two terrorists met their demise without causing harm to any military or civilian individuals.” The statement did not explicitly mention the presence of Chinese nationals.

The Chinese consulate in Karachi confirmed that a Chinese convoy from the Gwadar port project “was hit by roadside bombs and gunfire while returning from Gwadar Airport to the port area.”

The consulate affirmed that no Chinese citizens were harmed in the attack, urging Pakistan to “severely punish the perpetrators and take concrete and effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions, and projects.”

Attributed to the banned Baloch Liberation Army’s Majid Brigade, the attack was claimed by the group.

Wenbin Says To Improve Security Measures

In today’s statement, the Chinese spokesperson reemphasized that “no Chinese citizens were killed or injured.” While vehemently condemning the assault, Wenbin urged Pakistani authorities to “bring the culprits to justice and take measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals.”

He emphasized that the Chinese embassy and consulate in Pakistan, promptly activated an emergency response mechanism, cautioning Chinese citizens, companies, and project teams in Pakistan to remain vigilant.

They were advised to “enhance security measures, closely monitor the security situation on the ground, guard against security risks, and prioritize their safety,” the spokesperson conveyed.

Wenbin continued by affirming, “China will collaborate with Pakistan to jointly counter and combat terrorism threats and effectively safeguard the security of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Pakistan.”

When queried about China’s reaction to Anwaarul Haq Kakar assuming the role of Pakistan’s caretaker premier, Wenbin stated that China extended congratulations to Kakar on his appointment.

He elaborated, “Irrespective of shifts in the global environment and Pakistan’s domestic situation, the unwavering friendship between China and Pakistan will always remain steadfast and unbreakable.”

Wenbin asserted, “China is prepared to collaborate with Pakistan to advance our enduring strategic partnership, forge an even more intimate China-Pakistan community with a shared future in this new era, and bring greater benefits to both nations and their people.”
