PESHAWAR: Schoolteachers who protested in Peshawar city and called for an upgrade to their pay rates and the restoration of their allowances had a case registered against them.
According to information, 213 teachers who were protesting under the flag of the Primary School Teachers’ Association have been named in a case filed by the city police at Sharqi Police Station.
The First Information Report (FIR) details interference with the government, destruction of public property, and fire and stone-throwing at the police administration. 213 protesting teachers had been detained by the police the day before.
The provincial assembly building on Khyber Road was surrounded by thousands of primary school teachers from around the province who had gathered to demand their upgrading from BPS-14, 15, 16, and 17 as well as a rise in allowances.
The protesters claimed that despite repeated pledges over the previous three years, the provincial government had failed to address their problems despite having made promises of reform.
In order to disperse the demonstrators, the police baton-charged them and used tear gas on them. Many instructors were hurt in the incident, and they were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where first aid was given to them by the medical staff.
Teachers attacked police with these shells and stones in response to the tear gas shelling. Six police officers were hurt by the stones, and some media vehicles were also damaged, according to a statement from the municipal police.
