ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday to discuss various bilateral issues, including defense and security cooperation, as stated by the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the Saudi crown prince warmly welcomed General Munir, who is currently on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, at the Royal Palace.
During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on a range of topics, focusing on regional peace, defense collaboration, security cooperation, and strategies for strengthening bilateral relations. General Munir expressed his gratitude to the crown prince for his ongoing support for Pakistan and acknowledged his significant role in promoting regional peace and stability.
In a separate meeting, General Munir met with Prince Khalid Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister, where both leaders pledged to further enhance defense and security cooperation.
He also held discussions with other high-ranking officials, including Assistant Minister of Defense Engineer Talal Abdullah Al-Otaibi, Chief of General Staff Air Chief Marshal Fayyadh Bin Hamed Bin Raqeeb’ Al Ruwaili, and Chief of Royal Saudi Land Forces Lieutenant General Fahad bin Saud Al-Johani.
This visit follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia, where he attended the eighth Future Investment Initiative (FII) session and met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Both leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral initiatives, especially those agreed upon in high-level meetings held in Makkah and Riyadh in April.
During the prime minister’s visit, Saudi Arabia pledged an additional $600 million, bringing its total investment commitment to $2.2 billion for Pakistan. Last month, Islamabad and Riyadh also signed MoUs worth over $2 billion to boost trade and investment, solidifying their economic partnership.
