Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while addressing the media after attending a hearing at an accountability court regarding the PSO illegal recruitment reference, expressed his concerns about the state of politics in Pakistan. He emphasized that the pursuit of power through politics has historically damaged the country and its people.
Abbasi noted that the current political landscape poses significant challenges, suggesting that whoever assumes power under these circumstances may struggle to address the nation’s problems effectively. He highlighted the confusion surrounding the election process, mentioning Google’s apparent difficulty in providing accurate results due to the unique nature of Pakistani elections.
The former PML-N stalwart pointed out discrepancies between Form 45 and Form 47, indicating a systemic issue within the electoral process. He previously warned about the potential chaos from the elections, expressing gratitude for abstaining from direct participation in the electoral process.
Abbasi observed that various political actors are competing for power, each promising to lead the country towards improvement. He suggested that the eventual prime minister would likely be determined by their willingness to compromise and make concessions.
Regarding Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s recent statements about the PDM, Abbasi expressed uncertainty about Maulana’s status within the alliance, indicating ongoing ambiguity within the opposition coalition.
Earlier, Abbasi and other accused individuals attended a hearing related to a NAB reference concerning illegal recruitment in the PSO at a Karachi accountability court. The court adjourned the hearing until April 20, deferring further proceedings.
