Pakistan’s National Savings Department has revised profit rates on several government-backed investment schemes, giving savers an opportunity to earn higher returns. The updated rates took effect on October 21, 2026, and cover multiple savings certificates and income accounts. However, the profit rate on regular Savings Accounts remains unchanged at 10 percent annually.
National Savings Revises Profit Rates Across Schemes
Under the revised rates, Special Savings Certificates now offer a profit rate of 12 percent, up from 11.6 percent. Regular Income Certificates have also received an increase, with their rate rising from 11.76 percent to 12.12 percent.
Meanwhile, Behbood Savings Certificates, Pensioners’ Benefit Accounts and Shuhada Family Welfare Accounts will now provide returns of 12.96 percent, compared with the previous rate of 12.72 percent.
Defence Savings Certificates have also recorded increases across different maturity periods. The profit rate for six-year certificates has risen from 86 percent to 88 percent. Seven-year certificates now offer 113 percent, compared with the earlier rate of 109 percent.
Similarly, the rate for eight-year certificates has increased from 136 percent to 142 percent. Nine-year certificates now offer 176 percent, up from 168 percent, while the rate for ten-year certificates has climbed from 205 percent to 215 percent.
The government has also increased returns on Islamic and short-term savings products. Sarwa Islamic Term Accounts now offer a profit rate of 11.84 percent, compared with 11.33 percent previously. Short-Term Savings Certificates have also seen an increase, with their rate rising from 10.80 percent to 11.12 percent.
What the Changes Mean for Savers
The revised rates provide improved returns across several National Savings products, including options designed for pensioners and other investors seeking regular income. However, returns vary according to the scheme and investment period. Savers should review the applicable terms and deductions before choosing an investment option.
