NADRA plans to launch online biometric verification for individual taxpayers through its PakID app in September 2026.
The facility will allow eligible taxpayers, sole proprietors, and overseas Pakistanis to complete annual verification remotely. Consequently, users will no longer need to visit physical verification centres for the process.
PakID Verification Facility Nears Launch
NADRA has already developed the required functionality for biometric verification through the PakID application. The authority expects the facility to particularly benefit taxpayers living outside Pakistan.
Moreover, NADRA is working with the Federal Board of Revenue to secure formal recognition for the service. Once approved, PakID will provide an alternative to the existing e-Sahulat-based biometric verification process.
The development follows concerns from the Faisalabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry. The chamber highlighted difficulties faced by individual taxpayers and sole proprietors during annual biometric verification.
FBR Approval Still Required
NADRA said the new system will allow eligible users to complete verification from anywhere worldwide. Therefore, overseas Pakistanis could find the annual compliance process significantly easier.
The initiative also supports the government’s broader digitalisation and ease-of-doing-business agenda. Furthermore, the facility could reduce the need for taxpayers to travel to designated verification centres.
However, NADRA has described the planned launch during the first week of September as tentative. The authority still needs FBR approval before formally recognising PakID as an alternative verification channel.
Until that approval arrives, taxpayers must continue using the existing verification process. Meanwhile, NADRA and FBR are working towards completing the necessary arrangements.
If approved, the facility could simplify biometric compliance for thousands of eligible taxpayers. It would also expand access to digital government services for Pakistanis living abroad.
