ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have summoned Maulana Asad Mehmood, son of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment at Pakistan Post.
NAB Rawalpindi has directed the former federal communications minister to appear before its investigation team on November 10 at 11am to record his statement.
According to the investigation notice, the Establishment Division had approved recruitment against 3,938 positions at Pakistan Post. However, authorities allegedly appointed 4,252 individuals, exceeding the approved number by 314.
The investigation also concerns alleged appointments against 2,646 abolished vacancies in violation of Cabinet Committee directives.
NAB further stated that although officials had recommended contractual recruitment, a large number of employees were allegedly appointed permanently, creating an additional financial burden on the department.
The inquiry is also examining suspected violations of recruitment procedures and the circumstances surrounding the appointments.
Meanwhile, the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad has separately summoned Asad Mehmood in the same case. The agency issued its notice on October 30, directing him to appear on November 2.
NAB has warned that failure to comply with its summons could result in legal action under Section 31 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the summons does not establish criminal wrongdoing.
