ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq issued production orders for two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, Sanaullah Khan Masti Khel and Dawar Khan Kundi, allowing them to attend parliamentary sessions while in police custody.
The NA Speaker issued the orders on Wednesday under Rule 108 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
The orders stated that the presence of both lawmakers was necessary for the National Assembly session summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari on October 13. The documents confirmed that the two members were in the custody of Punjab police.
Under the directions, authorities must bring the lawmakers to Parliament House in Islamabad at the beginning of each sitting. The National Assembly’s sergeant-at-arms will receive them and return them to police custody after the session concludes.
The National Assembly Secretariat circulated copies of the orders to relevant federal and Punjab government officials, Islamabad’s chief commissioner and police chief, and the sergeant-at-arms to coordinate implementation.
Earlier, PTI Chief Whip Amir Dogar had written to the speaker, requesting production orders for nine detained party lawmakers, including Masti Khel and Kundi, so they could participate in parliamentary proceedings.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions following the federal government’s imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government cited the provincial administration’s alleged disengagement from counterterrorism efforts, a claim contested by PTI.
The production orders highlight the continuing dispute over detained lawmakers’ participation in parliamentary proceedings.
