ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has summoned Sindh Inspector General of Police over a delay in registering a murder case in the province. A bench expressed serious concern during the hearing and questioned the police response to murder cases. Justice Hashim Kakar criticised the situation in Sindh during the proceedings.
“There is no concept of punishment in Sindh,” Justice Hashim Kakar remarked. “Sindh Police itself facilitating release of people,” he further said.
The court also discussed the broader challenges surrounding FIR registration. Justice Kakar noted that police often hesitate to register cases after serious incidents.
“In this case the FIR was registered two days after the murder,” Justice Kakar said. “Police avoid registering a case in most of the incidents,” he further said.
Court Raises Concerns Over Sindh Police
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar also commented on the law and order situation in the province. He said conditions were particularly concerning in Sukkur and Larkana.
The bench expressed further displeasure over the treatment of victims and their families during the legal process.
“Even the animals not being treated like this,” the Justice remarked.
The observations came as the court examined the circumstances surrounding the delayed murder FIR. The bench sought explanations from senior police officials over the registration process.
Sindh Police Officials Summoned
The Supreme Court ordered the Sindh IG to appear before the court personally at the next hearing.
The bench also summoned the Advocate General Sindh and DIG Sukkur Police. Their appearance is expected to help the court examine the circumstances behind the delayed FIR. The court directed lawyers involved in the case to prepare further arguments and supporting material.
The hearing was subsequently adjourned until September 17. The upcoming proceedings are expected to focus on the reasons behind the delay and the broader concerns raised about police practices in Sindh.
