Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ameer Muqam has said all legal requirements for imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been fulfilled.
Speaking to journalists in Peshawar, Muqam said further developments could take place at any time. His remarks come amid growing political tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration.
Muqam Criticises KP Government
Muqam criticised Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the provincial government over what he described as unlawful actions.
He also praised KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, calling him capable and suggesting that the situation in the province could change quickly.
The minister highlighted law and order as one of KP’s biggest challenges. He said residents and security personnel had made major sacrifices during the fight against terrorism.
According to Muqam, better security remains essential for economic development and public welfare.
Governor’s Rule Debate Intensifies
Muqam’s statement adds to recent discussion about governor’s rule in KP. Governor Kundi previously confirmed that consultations had taken place over the possibility of imposing the measure. He also said the Constitution provides for governor’s rule.
However, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had earlier ruled out any immediate move, saying the federal government had no intention of imposing governor’s rule at that time.
Meanwhile, the PTI has challenged the possibility of such a move. Senior PTI leader Naeem Haider Panjutha said the party would resist governor’s rule and warned of further political confrontation.
PTI March Adds to Tensions
The political dispute has also intensified around PTI’s planned Islamabad march.
The party originally scheduled the march for September 27 but later postponed it to October 4. Chief Minister Afridi said the decision followed discussions within the party’s political committee.
Muqam questioned the impact of the planned protest and criticised the provincial government’s approach to security and negotiations.
For now, governor’s rule remains a subject of political discussion. Any formal decision would depend on the constitutional and legal process as well as developments in the province.
