The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) seized a large cache of illegal weapons during an operation on the M-5 Motorway near Rohri. Authorities also arrested two suspects who were allegedly transporting the arms from Peshawar to interior Sindh.
According to the NHMP Central Region, the operation began after motorway officers spotted a speeding vehicle behaving suspiciously. Officers signaled the driver to stop at multiple points. However, the suspects allegedly ignored the instructions and continued driving.
As a result, motorway police launched a pursuit. The vehicle was eventually intercepted near Rohri after officers successfully prevented it from escaping.
Large Quantity of Weapons Recovered
Following the interception, officers searched the vehicle and recovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition.
The seized cache included:
- 14 SMG rifles
- One shotgun
- 23 pistols, including 19 .30 bore pistols and four 9mm pistols
- More than 18,000 rounds of ammunition
- 89 extra magazines
- Four telescopic sights
- Five mobile phones
The recovery is considered one of the major weapons seizures made during a motorway operation in the region.
Suspects Arrested During Operation
Police identified the arrested suspects as Ubaidullah and Abdullah. According to officials, Ubaidullah belongs to Peshawar, while Abdullah is a resident of Kohat.
Authorities said the suspects were allegedly transporting the weapons consignment from Peshawar to interior Sindh.
The successful interception prevented the suspected shipment from reaching its intended destination.
Case Handed Over for Investigation
After completing the operation, the Motorway Police handed over both suspects, along with the recovered weapons and ammunition, to Sukkur Police.
The local police have initiated further legal proceedings and will continue investigating the origin, destination, and intended use of the seized weapons.
Officials are expected to examine the recovered evidence, including the mobile phones, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The operation highlights the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to monitor highways, intercept illegal activities, and prevent the movement of unlawful weapons across the country.
