The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Central Region has launched a special awareness campaign against the unnecessary use of high-beam lights. The initiative aims to educate motorists about safe driving practices and reduce road accidents caused by improper vehicle lighting.
According to NHMP Central Region spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad, officials are briefing drivers about the dangers of high-beam lights and the correct use of vehicle lighting systems. The campaign is being conducted across MC-I, Central and MC-II Zones, covering M-2, Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, M-2 South, M-3, M-4 and M-5.
Awareness Campaign Expanded Across Highways
In addition, NHMP has extended the campaign to several locations along the National Highway. Awareness activities are currently underway in Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
The spokesperson explained that high-beam lights can create intense glare for oncoming drivers. As a result, drivers may temporarily lose clear vision of the road, curves, or unexpected obstacles, increasing the risk of serious traffic accidents.
Authorities Warn of Safety Risks
Syed Imran Ahmad stated that even a few seconds of unnecessary glare can affect reaction time and create dangerous driving conditions. Therefore, NHMP is encouraging motorists to use vehicle lights responsibly, particularly during nighttime travel.
The motorway police have advised drivers to switch off high beams when approaching oncoming traffic and use appropriate lighting for road conditions. Meanwhile, authorities are also taking action against violators in accordance with traffic laws.
NHMP Central Region urged all motorists to drive responsibly and remain mindful of the safety of fellow road users. The department emphasized that proper use of vehicle lights can help prevent accidents and improve road safety nationwide.
