Lahore authorities have launched a screening drive to check the criminal records of commercial vehicle drivers across the city. Officials will cancel the driving licenses of individuals found to have criminal backgrounds. Authorities will also arrest drivers who have criminal records, according to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi.
Commercial Drivers Under Criminal Record Check
The screening covers holders of LTV, HTV and PSV licenses. It also includes drivers operating registered commercial vehicles, heavy vehicles and buses.
Traffic authorities are checking drivers’ license details against data from the Criminal Record Office (CRO).
Meanwhile, officials are collecting additional information from bus and truck terminals. This process will help authorities identify drivers with criminal cases and update their records.
According to Shirazi, the screening has already uncovered one driver with 27 registered cases.
The cases reportedly include allegations related to robbery, theft and fatal accidents.
Licenses to Be Cancelled
The CTO said authorities will take action against drivers whose criminal records emerge during the screening.
Their licenses will be cancelled, while police will also arrest the concerned individuals.
The authorities aim to prevent people with criminal backgrounds from continuing to operate commercial vehicles across Lahore.
The initiative also seeks to improve the accuracy of driver records. By checking CRO data against information collected at transport terminals, officials can identify drivers who may otherwise remain outside the screening process.
