Heavy monsoon rains continued to batter Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday. As a result, water accumulated on major roads and highways, disrupting traffic across several parts of the twin cities.
The persistent rainfall slowed vehicle movement on multiple routes. Consequently, commuters faced delays during peak travel hours. Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and drive with extra caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
Meanwhile, civic agencies remained active in low-lying areas. Teams worked to remove standing water and restore the normal flow of traffic as quickly as possible.
Rain Brings Relief Along With Traffic Disruptions
Although the heavy downpour caused inconvenience, it also brought welcome relief from humid weather. The rain significantly reduced temperatures in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, making conditions more pleasant after days of intense humidity.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the current spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5. Therefore, more rainfall is likely over the coming days, while temperatures are expected to remain lower than usual.
Rainfall Recorded Across Islamabad and Rawalpindi
The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded substantial rainfall in several areas during the latest spell.
In Islamabad, Saidpur received 62 millimetres of rain. Golra recorded 48 millimetres, while H-8 received 42 millimetres.
Rawalpindi experienced even heavier rainfall in some locations. Katarian recorded 99 millimetres, whereas Shamsabad received 63 millimetres during the same weather system.
These figures highlight the intensity of the ongoing monsoon activity affecting the region.
Nullah Lai Water Level Rises
The continuous rainfall also caused water levels in Nullah Lai to increase.
Officials reported that the water level reached 7.5 feet at Katarian. At Golmandi, the level rose to 6.5 feet. Authorities continued monitoring the situation closely as rainfall persisted.
Low-Lying Areas Face Waterlogging
Several low-lying neighbourhoods in Rawalpindi experienced significant water accumulation after the downpour.
Rainwater entered homes on Imam Bargah Road in Dhok Kala Khan, creating difficulties for local residents. Moreover, water also collected in Javed Colony, Jamia Masjid Road, Katarian, and parts of Murree Road.
Municipal teams continued drainage operations in affected localities. However, officials urged citizens to remain cautious until water levels recede and weather conditions improve.
The ongoing monsoon spell continues to affect daily life across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Therefore, residents have been advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and avoid flood-prone areas whenever possible.
