Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi will visit Tehran on Sunday for discussions focused on bilateral relations. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit is entirely within the framework of cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Speaking to Iran’s state television network Khabar, Baghaei highlighted the positive trajectory of relations between Pakistan and Iran. He noted that Tehran’s neighbourhood policy relies on shared cultural, historical, and regional connections to strengthen ties.
Iran Rejects Speculation About US Message
Baghaei dismissed speculation that Naqvi might carry a message or proposal from the United States during his visit. He stated that Iran enjoys very good and steadily growing relations with Pakistan and emphasized that the visit remains focused on bilateral matters.
He added that one of Pakistan’s economic ministers could also accompany Naqvi during the trip. According to Baghaei, the primary objective is to follow up on previous understandings and decisions reached by the leadership of both countries.
The spokesperson acknowledged that Pakistan has played a mediating role in regional affairs. Therefore, he said Islamabad could naturally raise regional issues during discussions, but no specific US proposal has been mentioned so far.
Focus on Regional and Bilateral Cooperation
Baghaei also referred to a recent telephone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. He said both ministers remain in close contact and continue consultations on regional and bilateral matters.
Furthermore, the two sides have agreed to hold talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Iranian officials have planned several bilateral meetings with representatives from different countries during the event.
Baghaei said a meeting with Dar is among the scheduled engagements. He added that both sides are expected to discuss a wide range of bilateral relations and international developments.
