KARACHI: A missing student Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Shaheed Benazirabad, has been murdered. His dead body was discovered on Sunday, two days after he went missing.
Aqib Ali Almani had gone missing two days earlier while returning from the university, according to police. Police recovered his body from a banana field along the Nawabshah-Sakrand Road. Authorities said they had not yet determined the motive behind the killing.
Student’s body recovered from field
Almani belonged to Naushehro Feroze district and was enrolled in the university’s Data Sciences programme. His uncle, Zulfiqar Almani, alleged that the student suffered severe torture before his death. Following the discovery, police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
However, officials have not yet disclosed details about any suspects or possible arrests in connection with the case.
Students protest over security concerns
Meanwhile, QUEST students held a protest against Almani’s killing after authorities recovered his body. The protesting students alleged that unidentified individuals abducted Almani from the university hostel. They also raised concerns about security arrangements at the campus hostel and demanded action over the student’s death.
Furthermore, the protest highlighted concerns among students about their safety within and around the university premises. Police said investigators were examining different aspects of the case to establish what happened before Almani’s disappearance and death.
Authorities are also expected to determine whether the alleged abduction occurred from the university hostel. The investigation will focus on identifying those responsible and establishing the motive behind the killing. Police said further details would emerge as investigators gather evidence and record statements from relevant individuals.
Meanwhile, students and the victim’s family are awaiting progress in the murder investigation and action against those responsible.
